How Does Laser Hair Removal Work

Let’s talk about how laser hair removal works but first let’s talk about all the other types of hair removal first. The most common and least affective is shaving, the hair is shaved from top of the skin once there is a little bit of stubble after a few days it grows back. Second is waxing, popular belief is that it tears the hair from the follicle in fact it doesn’t. It breaks the hair just below the skin surface leaving the hair follicle in place along with the bulge where the colour of the hair lives. Third is Epilation, the hand held device works over the hair and pulls the hair from just above the root. The least common of the above 3 hair removal techniques because it’s as painful as it sounds. Last but not least is Laser Hair Removal, 10 years ago it was very painful, took a long time as the client could only do small areas because it was too painful. Lasers have come a long way over the last decade making it painless (as long as the clinic is using a newer machine), larger areas can be done and much faster.

Laser hair removal uses a concentrated beam of light (laser) to remove unwanted hair.

During laser hair removal, a laser emits a light that is absorbed by the pigment (melanin) in the hair. The light energy is converted to heat, which damages the tube-shaped sacs within the skin (hair follicles) called the bulge that produce hair…that damage doesn’t allow the hair to grow back as long as the client does the amount of recommended hair removal sessions.

Pain free and permanent…what’s not to love!
