Lash Growth Serums and Eyelash Extensions
We get this question a lot, “can you use Lash Growth Serums when you have eyelash extensions…the simply answer is Yes but read on for the pros and cons.
Fun face: there is no such thing as a “growth serum”…there are growth ACCELERATORS. Meaning that the amount of natural hair you have when you were born is all you get. Using a growth serum does not actually give you more hair, it accelerates the growth cycle of your natural hair. Your hair grows in stages so think: baby hair, teenager hair and adult hair. The growth cycle of the hair is somewhere between 21 to 26 days depending on the individual. Using a growth serum speeds that up to 10 to 15 days, the hair appears thicker and longer because you are seeing more adult hair. Adult hair is strong and healthy while teenager or baby hair is fine and very thin until it matures into adult hair.
Pros of Using a Growth Serum: using a serum keeps the adult hair available for us to apply an extension to, we only lash adult hair so using a serum means we have more adult hair to work with making your lashes look fuller. Growth serums have come a long way, you no longer need an expensive serum or a prescription for one. One of our favourite serums is found on Amazon, many of our clients use this one with great results. There are now very few side effects with serums, over time and use companies have found what works and doesn’t cause irritation.
Cons of Using a Growth Serum: because the hair is turning over faster, the baby hair grows in faster pushing the adult hair with the lash extension on it out. Our clients using a serum relash (refill) their lashes every 2 weeks instead of every 3 weeks. Once you stop using the serum there is a big shed, using a serum interrupts the natural rhythm of of your hair growth cycle. When you stop using it, the cycle becomes confused and sheds the natural hair in order to regain it’s rhythm back.
So there you have it! the good and the bad of growth ACCELERATORS
